Abishek and Rekha’s Story: Jab We Met!

It was December 2008.  A charming boy from Chicago made plans to bring in New Years in Las Vegas. Coincidentally, a girl from small town Eufaula (two hours south of Atlanta) also decided to make a trip to Vegas for New Years.  Little did they know what destiny had planned for the New Year.

On New Years Eve, Abhishek and his buddies were partying it up at Tao, a popular club at the Venetian.  Meanwhile, Rekha and her girlfriends were bringing in the New Year at a party at the Westin Hotel.  Cupid came in the form of a common friend who decided to unite the two groups together. Decked out in dresses and stilettos everyone walked the strip to the Venetian, only to be disappointed as plans had changed.  The night ended at the bar at the Hard Rock hotel with good friends and great company, but the best was yet to come.  In Rekha’s mind the suspense grew.  Who was the Abhishek, that they walked all over Vegas to meet and still missed?

Finally, on January 1st, Abhishek and Rekha caught a glance of each other at the Paris Hotel café. After being briefly introduced by their common friend, Rekha parted ways to get some coffee, while Abhishek made conversation with friends.  They both caught each other stealing another look, but no more words were exchanged.

That night, fate revealed its New Year plan.  Abhishek, Rekha and their friends went out to the bar at the Wynn. Almost immediately, the two gravitated towards each other, one conversation led to another and soon they were inseparable! Rekha was mesmerized by Abhisheks confidence, charm and sense of humor. After partying at the Wynn, the celebration carried on at Paris. It was an unforgettable night in Vegas but sadly the only night the two lovebirds shared together.  Abhishek was leaving for San Francisco with his friends the next morning. Rekha and her friends still had two more days in Vegas.

In true Bollywood style, Abhishek said to Rekha, “There’s a chapel at this hotel, do you want to get married?”

Flattered, yet appalled at the suggestion, Rekha replied with a smirk, “You want to marry me, when we have only known each other for eight hours? How about you go home and think about this some more, and if you still feel like this (in a sober state), we can talk about it again?”

He wittily answered in true Bollywood style, “Fine, but mark my words, I will come back and I will marry you!”

It was 8 a.m. and The Abhishek made his exit. He didnt ask for her number, her e-mail address, not even her BlackBerry pin! Rekha’s heart skipped a beat. What was that? She met an amazing guy, had the best time getting to know him, and just after eight hours was sad to see him leave. Butwas he serious? Would he ever keep in touch again?

The Abhishek had gangster plans of his own. These plans included daily morning pickup lines for the next few months, monthly flowers and treats, surprise trips to visit, and eventually a billboard in Columbus, Georgia! In the end, Abhishek did keep his word, he came back! He came back in style, he came back to marry Rekha!
