When I started planning my November 2009 wedding a few months ago, I realized how few resources South Asian-American brides actually have available. Desi weddings are made up of amazing traditions and cultural details that aren’t always covered by mainstream bridal magazines, websites or t.v. shows and we really have nowhere to turn for a complete wedding resource. So, my best friend and bridesmaid, Farah, and I decided to start ‘The Sari-Clad Bride’ to help all those desi brides out there (like me!) who need some help planning their beautiful and lavish weddings, on any budget, any time-frame and in any city in the world! We hope to be able to provide you with some amazing ideas and resources you need to plan your fabulous wedding in the days to come.

Bride: Shoshi, 24
Groom: Rasha, 24
Matches aren’t made in heaven–they’re made through friends! Shoshi and Rasha first met in November 2004 at a mutual friend’s house. They became friends and started hanging out and staying up late nights talking on the phone, pretty frequently. On June 3rd, 2005, they finally went on a movie date. The [...]

Shaadi Studio (a wedding planning studio for South Asian-Americans) teamed up with our friends over at CitySaheli for a “A Night of Glitz & Glam with Shyamal & [...]

Hi Sari-Clad Bride,
I’m getting married in a hindu ceremony in December. I have been looking for modern hairstyles to wear under my chunni that covers my head, but all I find are traditional buns. I was hoping you could post some pics that are of more modern hairstyles that are not all buns. Thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Priyanka
Dear Priyanka,
It’s hard to find the [...]

Glass bangles (churis) are a symbol of femininity all over South Asia. There’s been a tradition of giving out  ’churis’ as wedding favors to all female  guests, but that trend has been dying down over the last few years.  So, here’s a quick and pretty centerpiece idea; buy some pretty but cost-efficient bangles and put [...]
