For Desi brides-to-be that are going to don a beautiful white wedding dress on the day of their wedding, The Sari-Clad Bride recommends adding a mantilla veil to accent and complete the look with a South Asian flare. Traditional mantilla veils originated in the late sixteenth century in the warmer regions of Spain and are used throughout the Latin American community as well. As such, this veil is a very ornamental and is often times made of lace. Similar to ornate dupattas that South Asian brides adore, the mantilla veil provides brides with a similar look of elegance with the perfect detailing.

Inspirational Tip: If you’re wearing a lighter-colored or pastel sari for your wedding, consider adding a Mantilla veil for a unique look.

When we asked South Asian Wedding Planner, Amy Patel of Planning Elegance, what tips she had to offer brides– here is what she had to say:

- Start planning your wedding early. South Asian brides do not even realize they need a planner–however, South Asian Weddings have several events and a planner is almost crucial.
- Consider hiring a wedding planner. It really does make a huge difference to have a planner. First-time brides generally don’t know what they’re supposed to do and a planner comes in very handy.
- Use South Asian vendors. Ensure that as a South Asian bride, you have vendors that are experienced and knowledgeable about South Asian weddings & events
- It is important to have a rehearsal prior to the wedding ceremony. Although this is atypical for South Asian couples, a wedding rehearsal guarantees that the bride and groom will be more relaxed on their wedding day as they will have more confidence and won’t feel like anything will go wrong on their wedding day

Holud: – August 8, 2009 at Brides home
Wedding: August 9, 2009 at ‘The Eastonian’ in Easton, PA

Tangina: “Kowser and I met late last October of last year through mutual friends. Because we lived so far away from each other, we were hesitant at first to pursue anything but gave it a shot anyway, thinking it probably wouldn’t go anywhere – little did we know that after our first conversation (and Kowser’s persistence!) he had me hooked. We both knew that we had found what we were looking for. We became serious pretty quickly and he surprised me with a proposal in April of 2009 which I of course accepted. We had a formal engagement in May which allowed our families to meet as well and also hammer out the wedding details.”
